Abstract. In recent years, Climate change and Energy crisis has become the main problem of the humankind. Nowadays, one of the most important challenges in built environment is to reach sustainable development. Accordingly, one of the best ways of producing electricity without polluting environment in arid zones is Photovoltaic. The term 'Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV)’ is now a part of every architect’s vocabulary. This paper will review the research conducted on photovoltaics and their effect on Sustainable Architecture. One application of PVs is its radically potential to improve the quality of life in the rural regions of developing countries. One of the most important aims in sustainable development in built environment is compatibility with social, environmental and economical contexts. Some basic understanding about PV operation is needed before the decision is made to install a system. In this issue, PV cells and their method of producing electricity will be discussed and then, the effect of other parameters on increasing or decreasing energy production will be studied. The present study was designed to determine the effect of PV cells on sustainable development. It’s so important to find effective methods and instruments such as PV cells to protect our Environment and residential conditions.
